Art with Ms. Callahan

Sixth grade art is about having fun and learning some new art skills such as watercolor techniques, figure and facial proportions and how to create a sense of mid ground, foreground and background. We will explore some multi-cultural art and work with clay tiles.

Seventh grade is the last year of required art in Wellesley. Seventh grade art is about developing observational drawing skills and making fine quality projects that you can be really proud of. We will explore many different media and you will learn to work with shadow and light and value. You will learn to leave schematic drawing behind and make things look real.

I teach the 8th grade elective Black and White Darkroom Photography. In this class you will shoot film, process it and make prints in a darkroom. You will take photos of objects, people and places. You will get to use a professional lighting studio and work in the style of the celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz. This class takes patience but is very rewarding. Each print you make will be a real work of art. You will learn to be a real photographer.

Who is Annie Leibovitz? Look at some of her photos at: http://www.pbs.org/wnet/americanmasters/episodes/annie-leibovitz/photo-gallery/19/
